CUMULATIVE STATSROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Junior guard Sean Burton led a contingent of three Ithaca players who finished with 20 points or better Friday as he scored a game-high 27 points as the Bombers defeated host Nazareth in men's basketball, 91-78.
The Bombers shot a blistering 54.7 percent from the field for the game (35 for 64), including 61.3 percent in the second half (19 for 31), to improve to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in the Empire 8 Conference. Nazareth, which shot a respectable 44.9 percent for the game (31 for 69), dropped to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the Empire 8.
Nazareth fell behind 43-35 at halftime and never recovered in the second half. Ithaca's lead grew to double digits, 48-37, on a three-pointer by Burton early in the second half and the lead continued to grow, topping out at 20 points, 74-54, with 10:35 left.
In addition to Burton, who made 10 of 17 shots from the floor, including six three-pointers for 27 points, junior Brendan Rogers scored 23 points on 8 for 11 shooting and junior Jeff Bostic scored 21 more by making 9 of 15 shots. Bostic also collected a game-high 12 rebounds.
Nazareth had four players in double figures, but the Golden Flyers couldn't match the Bombers basket for basket. Senior
Joe Canori scored 22 points; junior
Jeff DeHimer added a season-high 18; and sophomores
Corey McAdam and
Rayvon Higdon scored 16 and 12 points respectively.
