Nazareth cruises past Fisher, 73-56

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Five Nazareth players scored in double figures Tuesday as the Golden Flyers ran past visiting St. John Fisher in men's basketball, 73-56, in an Empire 8 Conference game.

Nazareth, which led 40-23 at halftime, improved its overall record to 11-3, including 4-1 in the Empire 8. Fisher fell to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in conference games. Fisher had won the last three meetings between the two schools and nine of the last 10.

Fisher scored the first basket of the game, but that was the last lead the Cardinals would hold. Freshman J.T. Miranda hit a three-pointer and the Golden Flyers took off from there. With eight minutes left in the first half, the Golden Flyers extended their lead to double figures, 22-11, on a basket by Leon Hill (Port Chester HS/Port Chester, NY) and they were comfortably ahead the rest of the game.

Sophomore guard Rayvon Higdon (Edison Tech/Rochester, NY) scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half as Nazareth extended its lead to 40-23. Fisher made just eight of 27 first-half shots and finished the game 0 for 16 from three-point range.

In the second half, the lead continued to grow as the Golden Flyers were up by as many as 26 points, 60-34, following a three-pointer by Joe Canori (Webster Thomas/Webster, NY) with 11 minutes left.

Canori was Nazareth's high scorer with 16 points. Higdon added 15 and Corey McAdam (Fairport HS/Fairport, NY) had 12 to go with 11 assists, five steals and eight rebounds. Hill and junior Jeff DeHimer (Scotia-Glenville/Scotia, NY) each scored 10.

Senior Isaiah Smalt was Fisher lone double-digit scorer with 10 points.

Nazareth plays its next three games at home, starting with Friday's E8 matchup with Ithaca at 8 p.m.
