Golden Flyers defeat Cortland, 3-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth improved its record to 3-1 after defeating visiting Cortland 3-0 in a non-conference game Saturday. The Golden Flyers received one goal from senior Caroline Parsons and two from junior Rachel Cushman in the victory. The Red Dragons fell to 0-3 with the loss.

On Nazareth's first goal, freshman Erica Conte advanced the ball to Parsons inside the box. Parsons made a move around the defender before beating the goalkeeper. Cushman scored the Golden Flyers' second goal by shooting a rebound into the open net. Cortland's starting goalie, Megan Thayer, was caught out of position as the initial shot hit the left post. Cushman scored a second goal in the final minute as the ball bounced off a Cortland defender into the goal.

Nazareth outshot Cortland 18-3 including 8-1 in the second half. The Red Dragons held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Golden Flyers open their Empire 8 schedule in their next game, Tuesday, September 12th at Alfred.
