CUMULATIVE STATSCANTON, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth scored both of its goals less than 90 seconds apart early in the first half Saturday as the Golden Flyers defeated St. Lawrence in a non-league women's soccer match, 2-1.
The victory was the third in a row for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 8-2 overall. St. Lawrence fell to 7-3.
"We played some of our best soccer of the season in the first half," said Nazareth Coach
Gail Mann. "We looked amazing at times."
Junior Kelly Finn (Homer HS/Cortland, NY) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 12th minute of the first half as she converted a crossing pass from Caroline Parsons (Glens Falls HS/Glens Falls, NY). Eighty-six seconds later, Nazareth scored again as senior midfielder Caity Richardson (Pittsford Mendon HS/Pittsford, NY) chipped a shot over Saints' goalie Hayleigh Hochberg's head, giving Nazareth a 2-0 advantage.
Stanzi McGlynn scored the only goal for St. Lawrence in the 43rd minute as she blasted a direct kick over the finger tips of Nazareth keeper Hillary Simon (Homer HS/Homer, NY).
Nazareth had a 21-13 edge in shots and Simon was credited with eight saves. Hochberg made 11 saves for the Saints.
Nazareth is home for its next game -- Saturday vs. Kean, N.J. at 11 a.m.
