CUMULATIVE STATSCORTLAND, N.Y. -- Nazareth posted its second straight shutout victory in women's soccer Sunday as the Golden Flyers got goals from juniors Ashley Clinton and Kelly Finn (pictured) to defeat Keene State, 2-0.
The Golden Flyers, competing in the second day of the Cortland Invitational, improved to 2-0 overall. The Golden Flyers also defeated Wilkes. 2-0, on Saturday.
"I'm very pleased," said Nazareth Coach
Gail Mann. "We beat two teams that I think will win a lot of games this year. Both Keene State and Wilkes were very solid last year."
In fact, Keene State finished 15-9 overall and Wilkes was 13-6-1. Both teams competed in the ECAC Tournament.
In Sunday's win, Clinton scored for Nazareth in the second minute of the game as she redirected a corner kick off the foot of Julie Birbilis. The score stayed 1-0 until the 54th minute, when Finn scored on a right-footed blast following a scramble in front of the goal.
Nazareth had advantages in shots (19-10) and corner kicks. Freshman goalie Hillary Simon made four saves in posting her second shutout of the weekend.
Nazareth returns to action Thursday for a non-conference game at Brockport at 4 p.m.
