ITHACA, N.Y. -- Nazareth's string of seven straight Empire 8 Conference titles in women's soccer came to an end Saturday as top-seeded Ithaca rallied past the Golden Flyers for a 2-1 victory in the E8 Championship game at Ithaca's Carp Wood Field.

The Golden Flyers had either won or shared the E8 title since 2000 and were shooting for their eighth NCAA Tournament berth in the last 11 seasons. They dropped to 11-6-2 overall. Ithaca clinched its fifth straight NCAA Tournament berth and its 18th in the last 21 seasons. The Bombers improved to 16-3 overall.

Nazareth broke ahead in the first 10 minutes of the game on an unassisted goal by Kelly Finn (Homer HS/Cortland, NY), who netted her team-best 10th goal of the season. It was only the ninth goal allowed by the Bombers all season.

Ithaca rallied behind two goals from sophomore Winnie Adrien, the game MVP who scored her 11th and 12th goals. Her first goal tied the score midway through the first half. Her second proved to be the game-winner with just over 33 minutes to play off an assist from Amy Scheffer, who also helped on the first goal.

Ithaca kept the pressure on in the second half and had a 19-7 advantage in shots to maintain its lead. Ithaca also had six corner kicks to Nazareth's three. Freshman goalie Hillary Simon made six saves for Nazareth. Senior Aimee Meacham had four saves for the Bombers.

Nazareth has an outside chance at an NCAA at-large berth. Tournament selections will be announced Sunday evening.
