Nazareth wins opener, 79-69

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sophomore guards Rayvon Higdon and Corey McAdam each scored 17 points Friday to lead a five-player Nazareth contingent in double figures as the Golden Flyers won their season opener in men's basketball, 79-69 over Oneonta.

The game was part of the University of Rochester's Chuck Resler Tournament played at the Palestra. The Golden Flyers play again Saturday against New Paltz at 1 p.m.

Higdon came off the bench for Nazareth and scored 14 of his points in the first  half as the Golden Flyers built a 37-30  lead.  Higdon made all six of his field goal attempts in the first half, including a three-pointer.

Nazareth's lead grew to double figures in the second half. Higdon made a free throw with 1:59 left to extend the advantage to 69-56.

Corey McAdam scored all of his points in the second half and went 8-for-8 from the foul line. He also passed for nine assists and made four steals. Senior Joe Canori added 16 points, senior center Tyler Smith had 12 points with eight rebounds and junior forward Jeff DeHimer scored 10 points. Junior Ryan McAdam led all rebounders with 10.

Ronald Stokes was Oneonta's high scorer with 17 points. Robert Fisk added 11, including three three-pointers.
