ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth erupted for eight second-half goals Saturday to break open a close game as the Golden Flyers defeated Hartwick in Empire 8 Conference men's lacrosse action, 11-3.
Senior
Hunter Burdick scored four goals and added one assist in Nazareth's second straigfht win. The Golden Flyers evened their overall record at 7-7 and boosted their conference mark to 4-2. Hartwick dropped to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the E8.
Nazareth got yet another strong faceoff performance from junior
Seth DeLisle, who won 14 of 18 draws and scooped up 11 ground balls. He now stands 226 for 309 (73.1 percent) for the season with 144 ground balls.
Clinging to a 3-2 lead at halftime, Nazareth scored three goals in the third quarter and five more in the fourth to pull away for its 29th win over the Hawks in 30 meetings. More importantly, Nazareth kept the Hawks off the second-half scoreboard until the final minute of the fourth quarter.
Paul Walter and Burdick scored early in the third quarter a little more than a minute apart to extend Nazareth's lead to 5-2. Then
Jacob Gray scored off a pass from
Jack Crowley with 4:50 left, enabling Nazareth to take a 6-2 lead into the final 15 minutes.
Crowley scored twice in the fourth quarter, including his team-leading 28th goal, as Nazareth poured it on. Burdick had the assist on Crowley's first goal at 12:58, then Burdick scored unassisted for his fourth goal of the game at 11:29 to extend the lead to 8-2. Walter,
Connor Chapman, then Crowley again made it 11-2 with 2:20 left.
After a scoreless first quarter, Hartwick scored first early in the second quarter. Nazareth tied it at 8:50 of the second as senior long-stick
Andre Bond scored his second career goal off an assist from another senior long-stick,
Brian Defliese. Hartwick regained the lead less than a minute later, but Burdick scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with just :03 left in the half, to give the Golden Flyers the lead for good.

Nazareth's defense then took over in the second half as freshman
Alex Winkler was called upon to make seven routine saves. Defliese and Bond helped keep the Hawks off the scoreboard for a stretch of more than 35 minutes. Freshman

Nazareth, which had advantages in shots (41-31) and ground balls (30-22), returns to action Tuesday at Houghton at 7 p.m.
