SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Sophomore Jack Crowley scored a career-best four goals and freshman goalie Alex Winkler made 14 saves for Nazareth Friday as the Golden Flyers recorded their first men's lacrosse victory of the 2017 season, 13-8, over previously unbeaten Clarkson.

Senior midfielder Joe Eiskant added three goals and one assist and senior midfielder Hunter Burdick had two goals and two assists as Nazareth improved to 1-2 overall after a game played before a crowd of about 900 at the Carrier Dome. Clarkson lost for the first time to fall to 3-1.

The non-conference game was tied 5-5 at halftime before Nazareth scored four times in the third quarter and four more times in the fourth to break the game open. Consecutive goals by Burdick, Jacob Gray and Crowley snapped the tie midway through the third quarter and gave Nazareth the lead for good at 8-5. A goal by Clarkson's Scott Dosser interrupted the scoring run, but Crowley eluded his defender to score an unassisted goal with just :06 left in the quarter as Nazareth regained its three-goal lead at 9-6 heading to the fourth.

Crowley scored again off an assist from Eiskant to open the fourth quarter and Eiskant added his second goal of the game less than four minutes later. Another goal by Eiskant and one by senior Luke Longo closed out the scoring and boosted Nazareth's lead to 13-7 with under two minutes left. Clarkson's Ryan DaRin scored his fourth goal of the game in the closing minute.

The first half was even statistically with Clarkson scoring the first two goals before Nazareth recovered to tie the score on goals by Crowley and sophomore attackman Connor Chapman. Burdick assisted on both tallies. Second-quarter goals by Anthony Basile, Eiskant and Burdick gave Nazareth a 5-3 lead, but Clarkson scored twice before the half ended to tie the game at 5-5.

Nazareth dominated the second half by winning 9 of 13 face-offs and gaining a 19-14 edge in shots. In addition Winkler was solid in goal with four of his saves coming in the fourth quarter. Junior Seth DeLisle took all of Nazareth's faceoffs and went 18-for-25 overall with seven ground balls.

Nazareth will be back at the Carrier Dome Monday for another non-conference game against Western New England at 7 p.m.
