ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Skidmore dominated the action most of the game Sunday in a non-conference field hockey game against Nazareth and went on to take a 6-1 victory over the Golden Flyers.
Ranked 13th nationally in Division III, Skidmore won for the sixth straight time to improve to 7-1 overall. Nazareth dropped to 1-8.
Gabby Hyman scored three goals for the Thoroughbreds, who had decisive advantages in shots (46-3) and penalty corners (19-5). Hyman has a team-best 10 goals on the season, while Krista Lamoreaux also scored twice and added an assist. Grace Floresheim scored Skidmore's other goal.
Nazareth kept Skidmore off the scoreboard for the first 11 minutes before thr Thoroughbreds finally broke through with Hyman scoring off an assist from Seeley Fancher. Skidmore then scored four more times before the first half ended and then added a sixth goal early in the second half to go up 6-0.
Nazareth was able to avoid the shutout as
Jennifer Hilts scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season with about five minutes left. Sophomore
Kimber Nourse played well in goal for Nazareth as she amassed 20 saves. Sophomore
Leah Good was credited with two defensive saves.
Nazareth is home again Wednesday for another non-conference game against Rochester at 7 p.m. The Golden Flyers resumes their Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday at Stevens at 2 p.m.
