ROCHESTER, NY – St. John Fisher used a strong offensive attack to outlast Nazareth 4-0 Tuesday night in a battle of East Avenue rivals. Fisher held a 1-0 lead at the half, before notching three more insurance goals in the second.
Nazareth falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play, while Fisher moves to 4-2 and 2-0, respectively.
Fisher came out strong from the start, outshooting Nazareth 23-3 in the half.
The Cardinals nearly scored midway through when Nickole Morgan hit the post on a re-directed shot.
Fisher made good on an opportunity later in the half at the 24 minute mark. Lauren Fazio connected with Emily Markarian for her second goal of the season.
Nazareth trailed 1-0 at the half.
It didn't take long for the Cardinals offense to strike in the second half as they were awarded a penalty stroke less than two minutes in.
Fazio added two points to her game total after putting it into the top left corner.
The Cardinals opened up the game in the 46
th minute on Fazio completed her five –point game with second goal of the contest. Less than :30 seconds later, Markarian recorded her second tally of the game to push the lead to 4-0.
Nazareth's best opportunity of the game came on a shot from the point from
Jennifer Hilts that sailed just wide of the net in the air 50 minutes into the game.
Kimber Nourse finished with 20 saves in net. It is the second time this season the sophomore netminder has made 20 saves or more in a game.
The Golden Flyers are back on the field Saturday when they travel to Ithaca for a 1 p.m. start.
