ResultsDELAWARE, Ohio -- The track and field season for Nazareth sophomore
Taylor Pierson came to a disappointing conclusion Thursday as she finished in 16th place in the women's long jump competition at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Pierson fouled on her first two jumps and then leaped 5.33 meters on her third attempt, which is the equivalent of 17 feet, 6 inches -- more than a foot behind her qualifying leap of 18 feet, 9 inches that she produced more than a month ago.
"No one jumped particularly well for some reason," Nazareth Coach
James Goss said in a text message.
Pierson was making her second straight trip to the national meet after she finished eighth last year to earn All-American honors. She also finished fifth nationally during the indoor season to become Nazareth's first-ever female track and field All-American. Amherst senior Naomi Bates won the competition with a jump of 6.02 meters (19 feet, 9 inches).
