Nazareth finishes 6th at UR Alumni Meet

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sophomore Gabrielle LeBihan shattered the school record in the 5,000-meter run Sunday to lead Nazareth's women's track and field team to a sixth-place finish at the Alumni Invitational at the University of Rochester's Fauver Stadium. The Golden Flyers amassed 44.5 team points to finish in sixth behind only St. Lawrence (137), Rochester (129), Brockport (55), Cortland (54) and Geneseo (45) in the 23-team event.

Nazareth also competed in the men's meet and finished in 17th place with 18 points. Sophomores Luis Rivera broke his own school record in the hammer throw and Brandon Vuolo broke records in the shot put and discus.

In the women's meet, LeBihan and Nazareth freshman Emily Thompson finished 1-2 in the 5,000-meter run. LeBihan's time of 18:08.11 shattered the Nazareth record of 19:01.30 set by Ashley Hughes in 2007. She was nearly nine seconds ahead of Thompson, who ran 18:17.08.

Sophomore Taylor Pierson finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.37 meters (17 feet, 7 1/2 inches) and junior Hannah Brackley was third in the 200-meter dash (26.52). Junior Michaela Gildemeyer competed in both the 800- and 1,500-meter runs and placed fourth and seventh respectively with times of 2:19.55 and 4:53.72. Junior Kate Durr also earned team points by finishing fourth in the high jump as she cleared 1.49 meters (4 feet, 10 1/2 inches).

In the men's meet, Rivera finished second in the hammer throw with a school-record heave of 47.48 meters (155 feet, 9 inches) and Vuolo was seventh in the shot put by breaking his own school record with a distance of 13 meters (42 feet, 8 inches). Vuolo also was seventh in the discus with a throw of 127 feet, 5 inches. Senior Jake Lafaver ran in the 1,500 meters and finished ninth in 4:05.81, less than four seconds behind the winner in a closely contested race.
