Endicott game
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Sophomore
Kelly Kocher yielded just four hits and had 15 strikeouts Sunday as Nazareth edged Montclair State, 3-2, in the first of two softball games at the Rebel Games in Florida. The Golden Flyers dropped the second game, 3-2, against Endicott.
In the first game, the Golden Flyers rallied from a 1-0 deficit by scoring all three of their runs in the fourth inning. Nazareth got two hits in the inning and benefited from two Montclair errors. Freshman
Kaitlin Graham drove in one run on a fielder's choice and junior
Katie Valerio drove in another run on an infield single.
Montclair State closed to within 3-2 with a run in the top of the sixth, but Kocher was able to retire the side in the seventh for Nazareth's first win.
In the second game, sophomore
Casey Mathers started on the pitcher's mound and allowed six hits and struck out five. Nazareth led 1-0 in the second inning on doubles by
Brittany Patenaude and Valerio.
Endicott scored twice in the third, but Nazareth added a run in the fourth to tie the score at 2-2. Endicott pushed home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Merry MacDonald drove home pinch runner Colleen Martin with the winning run.
Nazareth plays two more games Monday -- vs. Trinity Christian at 3 p.m. and vs. Hood at 5.
