ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth finished the 2009 softball season strong by defeating the Hilbert Hawks 6-2 and 10-1 in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Flyers ended the season with a 17-17 overall record and were 4-8 in Empire 8 play. Hilbert drops to 6-31 after the losses.
In the first game, Nazareth was led by freshman
Kelly Kocher, who pitched seven innings and tallied 13 strikeouts to earn the victory on the mound. Offensively the Golden Flyers were led by senior Laura Perisco, who finished the game with two hits including a home run. For the Hawks junior Rachel Parker hit a two-run single in the third to score their only runs of the game.
In the second game, Nazareth was led by their offense which scored 10 runs and totaled 14 hits. Leading the way for the Golden Flyers was junior
Lisa Nazarenko, who ened the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore
Katie Valerio added three hits and Perisco knocked in two runs in the winning effort.
Nazarenko earned the win on the mound for the Golden Flyers, pitching six innings of four hit baseball.
