Returning to the Golden Flyers in 2023-24 as a volunteer assistant coach, Matt Battaglia begins his fourth season with the Nazareth coaching staff. He completed an honor-laden running career during the 2017-18 indoor track and field season. The three-time Empire 8 Champion in the 800-meter indoors has school records in both the 4x200 and 4x400 indoor events. He is also listed in the All-Time Top Five in the 500, 800 and 1000 meter events for indoor track and field and is also listed in the 800-meter outdoor top-five with school records in teh 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
A native of Solvay, N.Y., Battaglia specialized as a middle distance runner and was a five-time Empire 8 Conference all-star during the indoor season and a three-time recipient outdoors. He won the state outdoor title in the 800-meter run in 2015 and was the indoor titlist in that event in 2016.
Battaglia also excelled in the classroom before earning an undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. He was selected for the Robert A. Kidera Scholar-Athlete Award in 2017 for his academic and athletic excellence. He earned a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
