Jared DeMichiel, former goaltending standout at RIT, was named assistant coach for the Golden Flyers' men's hockey team in January of 2012.
DeMichiel has assisted head coach George Roll in recruiting players and helped the Golden Flyers to six wins as well as the championship of the Skidmore Invitational in their inaugural season of intercollegiate play in 2012-13. He helped the Golden Flyers steadily become more competitive in their second season of 2013-14, when they finished 8-16-2 overall. DeMichiel assists in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, skill development for goalies and defensemen, analysis of game video, travel planning and game-day and practice preparation.Â
DeMichiel, originally from Harwinton, Conn., was the Tigers' starting goalie during their run to the Frozen Four in the 2009-10 season. He led all of Division I with 27 victories that year, was second in shutouts with six, seventh in goals-against average and eighth in save percentage. In 2010, DeMichiel led the Atlantic Hockey Association in every major statistical category and was a first-team Atlantic Hockey Association all-star selection. He also was named Goaltender of the Year and made the Atlantic Hockey Association all-tournament team. DeMichiel was named the Most Outstanding Player at the 2010 East Regional and was named the Rochester Press-Radio Club's 2010 Paychex Male College Athlete of the Year.
He played in 66 games during his career at RIT and compiled a record of 41-19-2 with a 2.48 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage and seven shutouts. DeMichiel holds RIT records for career wins and wins in a season as well as Atlantic Hockey Association record for wins in a season.
After graduating from RIT with a degree in Business Administration, DeMichiel signed with the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears and played professionally for parts of two seasons. He attended NHL training camps with the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins. In addition to Hershey, DeMichiel played with the South Carolina Stingrays, Elmira Jackals, Kalamazoo Wings and Chicago Express of the East Coast Hockey League and with Providence of the AHL.
While helping Coach Roll recruit the first recruiting class at Nazareth, DeMichiel assisted with the RIT women's hockey team that went on to win a Division III national championship. In 2012 and 2013 DeMichiel coached at the USA Hockey Select Under-17 and Under-16 Development camps along with several of the nation's top collegiate coaches. Additionally, he has worked as a goalie instructor at several camps and clinics.
DeMichiel earned his bachelors degree from RIT in Business Management and his Masters in Management from Nazareth.
