Softball Splits Crosstown Doubleheader at University of Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) – Nazareth Softball (5-5) split a competitive doubleheader on the road against University of Rochester (7-5) Wednesday afternoon at Southside Field, rallying late to take game one, 6-5, before falling in game two, 1-5.

GAME ONE: NAZARETH 6, ROCHESTER 5

HOW IT HAPPENED

●      Nazareth broke through first in the third inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues as Bryanna Moroughan and Haleigh Suitor both came around to score, followed by an RBI single from Kaijah Alexander to build a 2-0 lead.
●      Rochester responded in the fourth, stringing together two hits to even the score at 2-2, and the game remained tight through the middle innings as both teams traded defensive stops.
●      After Rochester took a 3-2 lead on a solo home run in the sixth, Nazareth entered the final inning trailing but quickly flipped the momentum. Alexis Brown started the rally with a bunt single before Ruby Marrapese followed with a base hit. Moroughan then delivered a clutch RBI single to tie the game.
●      With runners in scoring position, Suitor delivered the biggest swing of the game, launching a three-run home run to left field to give Nazareth a 6-3 advantage in the seventh.
●      Rochester pushed back in the bottom half, scoring two runs and bringing the tying run to the plate, but Nazareth held on defensively to secure the 6-5 victory.

●      Haleigh Suitor led the offense with a three-run home run in the seventh inning.
●      Bryanna Moroughan recorded multiple hits, including a key RBI in the final frame.

GAME TWO: ROCHESTER 5, NAZARETH 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

●      Game two opened as a pitcher's duel before Rochester struck first in the second inning, using a triple and a bunt RBI to take an early 2-0 lead.
●      Nazareth struggled to find offensive rhythm early, going hitless through the first three innings while Rochester continued to apply pressure on the basepaths.
●      The Golden Flyers broke through in the fourth when Madison Hicks doubled to right field, driving in a run to cut the deficit to 2-1 and spark some momentum.
●      Rochester answered immediately, capitalizing on defensive miscues in the bottom half to score two runs and extend the lead to 4-1. An additional run in the fifth pushed the margin to 5-1.
●      Nazareth threatened late, loading the bases in the seventh inning after a series of walks and singles, but a double play ended the rally and secured the win for Rochester.
