Softball Picks Up Two Wins on Day Three of Florida Trip

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Softball (4-2) grabbed two more Spring Games wins over UW-Platteville (7-6), 7-5, and Southern Maine (3-2), 7-2, Tuesday afternoon at Fortune Road Athletic Complex.

GAME ONE: NAZARETH 7, UW-PLATTEVILLE 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nazareth struck first in the opening inning as Madison Hicks roped an RBI double to left center, scoring Haleigh Suitor for a 1-0 lead and early momentum.
  • UW-Platteville answered by taking control in the middle innings, tying the game in the third on an unearned run before adding single runs in the fourth and fifth to build a 3-1 lead, capitalizing on timely hits and a Nazareth error.
  • The deficit grew to 5-1 in the sixth after a two-run frame that included an RBI single and another unearned run, putting Nazareth behind late despite Amanda Linnenbrink working through traffic and recording five strikeouts in the circle.
  • Nazareth erupted in the seventh, beginning with Bryanna Moroughan's two-run triple to cut the deficit to 5-3, followed by an RBI groundout from Suitor to make it a one-run game.
  • Kaijah Alexander delivered the equalizer with a solo home run, and moments later Morgan Russo launched a two-run homer to cap a six-run inning, flipping a four-run deficit into a 7-5 Nazareth lead.
  • Linnenbrink closed it out in the bottom half, stranding two runners and sealing the comeback victory as Nazareth scored six runs on four hits in the final inning to complete the rally.
GAME NOTES
  • Kaijah Alexander's game-tying solo shot in the seventh inning makes Nazareth's career home runs leader with 18. The equalizer was her second home run and eighth RBI of the road trip.
  • Morgan Russo launched her first home run of the season to seal the 7-5 victory for the Golden Flyers, the 15th of her collegiate career.
  • Amanda Linnenbrink tossed her second complete game in a Nazareth uniform, allowing five runs, three earned, on 11 hits and five strikeouts.

GAME TWO: NAZARETH 7, SOUTHERN MAINE 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nazareth jumped in front immediately in the first, capitalizing on early pressure as Haleigh Suitor delivered an RBI single following an error, Madison Hicks added another RBI knock, and Morgan Russo brought home a run on a groundout to build a quick 3-0 lead.
  • The Golden Flyers extended the advantage in the second when Ruby Marrapese tripled and later scored on Bryanna Moroughan's fielder's choice, making it 4-0 and continuing to force action on the bases.
  • After Southern Maine got one back in the third, Nazareth answered right away in the bottom half as Ella Maloney lined an RBI single to center, restoring a four-run cushion at 5-1.
  • Madison Hicks controlled the game in the circle, working out of early traffic and finishing with three strikeouts, including key outs to halt momentum in the first and seventh innings.
  • Nazareth broke it open in the fifth with aggressive baserunning and timely hitting—Alexis Brown and Ruby Marrapese both reached and moved into scoring position before Moroughan drove in two with a single to center to push the lead to 7-1.
  • Southern Maine added a run in the seventh, but Hicks limited further damage with a strikeout and a groundout to close it, sealing a 7-2 win after Nazareth controlled the game from the opening inning.
GAME NOTES
  • Madison Hicks picked up her second win of the trip in the circle, allowing two runs on seven hits and fanning three.
