New Paltz, N.Y. – The Nazareth men's volleyball team played their 8th consecutive road game on Saturday. They visited the SUNY New Paltz Hawks, where they were defeated in straight sets. The Golden Flyers moved to 12-11 on the season and 1-3 in-conference, while New Paltz improved to 18-5 overall and an undefeated 4-0 in the United Volleyball Conference.
How It Happened
- The Golden Flyers hung around early, keeping the Hawks within only a few points and finding themselves down 9-7. New Paltz found a rhythm that allowed them to go on a 6-1 run, but Nazareth kept fighting as they followed it up with a tough 4-3 run of their own. The Hawks proved to be too much to handle in set number one however, taking 7 of the next 9 points to claim a 1-0 lead by a score of 25-14.
- SUNY New Paltz kept their momentum alive in the second period, as they jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead. Nazareth once again showed no signs of quit though, battling all the way back to being within 2 points at 9-7. The two squads would go on to trade points and short runs all the way down to the wire. The Golden Flyers were down 20-18 with a chance to turn the tides, but New Paltz managed a few more side-outs to take a close set 25-21.
- Nazareth showed promise early in the third set, as they went up 3-2 right away with their backs against the wall. They conceded a few points on powerful kills by the Hawks, but remained within reach at 10-9. The gas appeared to run out for the purple-and-gold however, who conceded 15 of the next 20 points to suffer another 25-14 set loss. This one marked the sweep for New Paltz, taking Nazareth in 3 sets.

The Golden Flyers will close out their streak of road games with a match against the New York University Violets on Sunday, March 15th in the Big Apple. The opening serve is set for 1pm.
