Men's Volleyball Picks Up Key UVC Win Over Elmira In 4 Sets

Elmira, NY- The Nazareth men's volleyball team (12-10 , 1-2 UVC) pushed its win streak to three on Wednesday defeating Elmira (10-8 , 0-3 UVC) 3-1 in four sets. Nazareth would win three unanswered sets after dropping the first to the Eagles during this mid-week in-conference matchup in Elmira, NY.

How it Happened:
  • The Golden Flyers and Soaring Eagles traded blows early throughout the first set. Nazareth came out strong, but Elmira continued to stay hot on their tail. Elmira would take the lead and begin to distance themselves from Nazareth midway through the set. The Golden Flyers looked to crawl back, but Elmira stayed with the momentum and took the set 25-20.
  • Nazareth and Elmira would change leads three times in the second set. Neither team could find a rhythm until midway through the set, Nazareth would find the spark scoring 5 points in a row to gain a 6-point lead on the Eagles. Nazareth would continue to click and hold back Elmira eventually winning the set 25-17.
  • In the third, the Golden Flyers held the lead throughout the set, not letting the Soaring Eagles catch up. Sean Frawley and Quintin Chiles would each help lead the charge each earning 4 kills.
  • Nazareth looked to keep the pedal to the metal and not let up heading into the fourth set. Nazareth started strong, but they faced a hungry and relentless Elmira squad who would not let up. Nazareth would breakaway midway through the set, gaining a five-point lead on Elmira. Elmira would continue to fight back, but a final kill from Frawley would ultimately be the deciding factor as Nazareth wins the final set 25-17 and would go on to win the match 3-1.
