Women's Hockey Scores Late to Defeat Elmira, 3-2

ROCHESTER, NY - Nikki Sharp buried the game winner with 22 seconds remaining, to give Nazareth a 3-2 victory over Elmira in a showdown between two of the UCHC's top teams on Friday night. The Golden Flyers improve to 19-0-1 overall and 9-0-0 in conference play, clinching the top seed in the UCHC.

How It Happened:
  • After a back and forth first period, Elmira would break the ice first scoring in the last couple minutes of the period to take a 1-0 lead.
  • The shots after one period were 10-6 in favor of Elmira
  • A strong start to the second frame by Elmira made it tough on the Golden Flyers as they got into penalty trouble but were able to kill off all three penalties.
  • Then, with four minutes remaining, Amy Laskowski scored her league leading 22nd goal of the year to tie the game, 1-1. Laskowski's shot beat the goalie on the blocker side from the top of the circle.
  • The shots through two periods would see a 20-10 advantage for Elmira.
  • Just over six minutes into the 3rd period, Meredith Boettcher buried a powerplay goal to give Nazareth a 2-1 lead. The original shot came from Amy Laskowski and Boettcher was on the doorstep to bang home the rebound. Charlotte Crudale was credited with the secondary assist.
  • A late push from Elmira resulted in a game tying goal with just four minutes left, making overtime feel all but certain.
  • However, with just 22 seconds remaining, Corsica Skibinski made a great play to set up Nikki Sharp backdoor on a two on one. Sharp pulled the puck to her backhand, tucking into the open net, giving the Golden Flyers the win, 3-2.
