Field Hockey Wins Double OT Thriller Over Oswego State

OSWEGO, NY (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth University Field Hockey recorded a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime victory over Oswego State Wednesday afternoon. Senior forward Audra Mieczkowski scored the game-winner with less than a minute left in the second overtime. Nazareth now moves 2-1 on the season while Oswego drops to 1-3. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
Nazareth dominated the possession and offensive opportunities throughout the contest, outshooting the Lakers 38-9 and firing 27 shots on goal. Despite their offensive pressure, the Golden Flyers were held scoreless through regulation by a standout performance from Oswego State goalkeeper, who registered an impressive 26 saves. 

The breakthrough finally came in the 70th minute, as Mieczkowski capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity, blasting a shot past the keeper for the win. The goal marked her first of the season and capped off an impressive individual effort that included 7 total shots. 

Nazareth held the Lakers to just 4 shots on goal and zero goals across more than 70 minutes of play. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Bachner earned her first shutout of the season, stopping all shots she faced in 71 minutes of action. 

GAME NOTES
  • Sophomore Michaela Cushman led with 10 shots with eight on goal
  • Graduate Student Hannah Janes added six shots with five on goal 
  • Freshman Kristina Fisher and Mieczkowski each tallied four and seven shots, respectively
  • Nazareth totaled 14 penalty corners, compared to Oswego's 10
  • The Golden Flyers held Oswego to just two total shots across both overtime periods.
