ROCHESTER, NY – A spirited second half was not enough as the Nazareth men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Alfred University on Wednesday at Golden Flyer Stadium. Nazareth drops to 3-2-2 overall and 1-1-0 in Empire 8 play, while Alfred moves to 4-3-1 and 2-0-1, respectively.
How It Happened:
- In the 17th minute, a misplayed ball by goalkeeper Bryan Tirado, was capitalized on by the Saxons. A swarming Juan Jose Menedez Gutierrez was able to get a touch on the ball and the push it past Tirado
- Another defensive mishap in the 37th minute nearly cost the Golden Flyers again, however Tirado stood tall to keep the score at 1-0. He finished the game with three saves
- In the second half, Nazareth came out with some juice and dominated with a 12-3 advantage in shots, including Zach Scott hitting a shot off the crossbar just over five minutes in
- Nazareth continued to throw men forward throughout the half, creating several strong chances. The strongest chance came in the 84th minute as an in-swinging cross from Alexander Kobayashi to the back post found the head of Samuel Burton whose header drilled off the crossbar
- The Golden Flyers finished the game with a 16-10 edge in shots and 7-5 margin in corner kicks.
