Men’s Cross Country Places 13th at Yellowjacket Invite

GENESEE, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) - The Golden Flyers men's cross country team took 13th place in a pool of 24 teams at the Yellowjacket Invitational, scoring 392 points in an 8km race. SUNY Geneseo took home the event with 61 points, followed by RIT and Rochester with 68 and 85 points respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Nazareth's first finisher was Senior Connor Jackson who crossed the finish line in 49th place out of 319 runners. He completed the race with a time of 26:39.8, an improvement of 1:39.8 over his time at this event last season.
Freshman Rylan Powell was second among the Golden Flyers and 106th overall. He put in a time of 27:35.1 with kilometer splits of 3:26.88.
Two more freshmen followed Powell to finish in third (126th overall) and fourth (137th overall) among their team. Grady Engelbert crossed with a time of 27:51.7 and Edward Popp with 27:58.0.
Sophomore Thuan Nguyen came in 143rd and was Nazareth's fifth finisher. He clocked a time of 28:06.7 and was followed by the Golden Flyers' two displacers in Junior Brennan Farr in 154th place with a time of 28:19.4, as well as freshman Mike Naylor in 182nd at 28:54.8.

RACE NOTES

The Golden Flyers edged out the St. John Fisher Cardinals by six points in the team standings.
Eight runners from the Nazareth team crossed the finish line before the 29-minute mark of the race, all achieving one kilometer paces below 3:40.
There were two division one teams participating in the Invitational; Colgate and Niagara Universities, as well as an alumni team from the University of Rochester.

The Golden Flyers will race again on Saturday, September 27th at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University in Rochester, NY.
