Men’s Soccer Falls to Allegheny 2-1

MEADVILLE, Pa (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Men's Soccer fell at Allegheny, 2-1, Saturday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Nazareth led the first half in shots, with 7 to Allegheny's 3. Allegheny fought back in the second half, scoring 2 goals on 10 shots to the Golden Flyers' 1goal on 6 shots to take the match.
  • Nazareth falls to 2-1-1 on the season, maintaining a winning record and well within the mix for the conference playoffs. 
  • Junior Spencer Neil had two first half attempts, both of which were stopped by Allegheny goalkeeper Cadan Bennett. Neil scored his third goal of the season at the 65th minute in the second half to break the tie on a penalty kick, giving the Golden Flyers a 1-0 lead. 
  • Allegheny fought back with goals in the 73rd and 84th minute, establishing a 2-1 lead for the Gators. Freshman goaltender Bryan Tirado fought off 6 of  8 shots on the Nazareth goal, giving the Flyers a chance late in the match. 
  •  Nazareth went on a vicious attack with only a few minutes remaining, but were ultimately denied by Allegheny's defense, which included an extra defender as part of its game plan. 
  • Nazareth freshman Samuel Burton had 4 shots, including  three of which were dangerous headers on the Allegheny goal. Senior Samuel Romanosky helped control the pace of play for the Golden Flyers, with some massive throw-ins to create some offense.

Nazareth will be back on the pitch this Tuesday, September 16th at Golden Flyer Stadium for a 4pm match against Fredonia
