Softball Scoops up Two More Conference Wins on Monday Evening

KEUKA, N.Y. - On Monday evening, the Golden Flyers traveled to Keuka for another conference double header where Nazareth came out with two more tallies in the wins column, defeating the Wolves 7-1 and 12-8.

The Golden Flyers now have an overall record of 15-8 and a conference record of 9-3, while the Wolves drop to 4-23 overall and 2-12 in conference play.

Golden Flyers Win 7-1
Nazareth came out hot in the first game, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Morgan Russo led off with a double and was then knocked in on a single from Ashley Bell. Bell was brought around the bases on a double by Sarah Ferruzza with one out. Madison Hicks then joined the party with a double to score Ferruzza for Nazareth's final run of  the inning.

The two teams then held each other scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Keuka earned a run back to make the score 3-1 heading into the fifth. 

Nazareth put up three more runs in the fifth to go up by five. Scoring for the Golden Flyers in the fifth inning was Bell, Kaijah Alexander, and Ferruzza. Bell had a single in the inning while Alexander and Knapp each had doubles. Hicks and Haleigh Suitor also each had sac flies in the inning, Ferrzza advancing to third on Hicks' and scoring on Suitor's.

After a silent sixth inning on both sides of the field, the Golden Flyers put up one more run in the top of the seventh on a homer buy Suitor to set the final score at 7-1.

Avery Zembek was in the circle all seven innings for the Golden Flyers, tossing six strikeouts while only allowing one earned run on 26 batters faced.

The Golden Flyers Outlast the Wolves 12-8
The second game started with another three run inning for the Golden Flyers. Bell was the first scorer batted in on a single from Alexander. Alexander then came around on a single by Suitor. Suitor was the final run of the inning, batted around on a double by Hicks.

In the bottom of the third, Keuka finally put up a run to make the score 3-1 heading into the fourth inning.

In the top of the fourth, Nazareth's bats got hot with six runs in that inning alone. Scoring for the Golden Flyers in the fourth was Julia Maciag, Russo, Bell, Ferruzza, Suitor, and Hicks. Russo and Hicks had hits in the inning with a single and a double respectively. Bell, Ferruzza, and Suitor each had fielder's choice RBIs in the inning.

The Wolves took two runs back in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 9-3 heading into the fifth.

Russo scored another run in the top of the fifth inning, scoring on an error after getting on with a single to make put the Golden Flyers up 10-3.

Keuka's bats finally woke up in the bottom of the fifth, as the Wolves cut the deficit to two, bringing around five runs in the inning.

The sixth inning was silent for both teams, but the Golden Flyers were able to put up two more runs in the top of the seventh to give Nazareth a bit more of a cushion. Bell led off the inning with a triple and was batted in on an Alexander single. Trimber was Nazareth's other scorer, pinch running for Alexander. Trimber scored by stealing home on a double steal situation where Maddie Klein, running for Hicks, stole second.

The score would remain 12-8 for the rest of the game as the Golden Flyers held Keuka to three batters in the bottom of the seventh.

Hicks had the start for the Golden Flyers and was awarded the win in the circle. In four innings pitched, Hicks had four strikeouts and allowed six earned runs. Alexander threw a partial inning and had one strikeout and one earned run on four batters faced. Zembek threw the remaining 2.2 innings and tallied three strikeouts while not giving up any earned runs against nine batters faced.

The Golden Flyers will be back in action on April 22nd at St. John Fisher University for a 3 and 5 p.m. double header.
