Men's Lacrosse Outlasted by St. John Fisher

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Men's lacrosse fell just short to crosstown rival St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon, dropping the game 14-11. Quinn McKercher led the Golden Flyers' scoring efforts with four goals.

The Golden Flyers threw the first punch, jumping out to a 4-0 lead early on in the first quarter. McKercher struck first, scoring unassisted at the 14:05 mark, and then again just 40 seconds later. Matthew Farrington then joined the party at the 10:24 mark, scoring on an assist from Owen Riley. McKercher then scored his third goal of the game with just under seven minutes left in the first to put the Golden Flyers up 4-0.

In the final three minutes of the first quarter, Fisher was able to cut Nazareth's lead down to one, including a goal at the buzzer, setting the score at the end of the first at 4-3.

Fisher was quick to tie the game in the second with a goal in under two minutes. Six minutes later, Fisher took its first lead of the game at 5-4. Under a minute later, Nazareth forced another tie at 5-5 with an unassisted goal by Joey Hathorn. After another minute of game play, Kyle Rosenberger scored on an assist by Louis Cogliandro for Nazareth to take back the lead at 6-5.

With four minutes left in the half, Fisher tied the game back up at six, where the score would stay until the third quarter.

The third quarter is where Fisher claimed the game, outscoring Nazareth 4-2. The Golden Flyers' third quarter goals came from Rosenberger and McKercher assisted by Farrington and Hathorn respectively.

Under three minutes into the final quarter, both Fisher and the Golden Flyers put up another goal, making the score 11-9, Nazareth's goal from Cogliandro. With less than three minutes to play, Fisher was up 14-9, when Nazareth went on a two goal run, both goals by William O'Neill, the second assisted by Rosenberger. Unfortunately for the Golden Flyers, the run came too late and Nazareth dropped the game 14-11.

McLean Ralston was between the pipes for Nazareth and made 11 saves.

The Golden Flyers will be back in action on April 23rd at 4 p.m. at Brockport for another conference match-up.
