ROCHESTER, NY – Transfer Logan Marchese scored the opening goal and assisted the game-winner as #8 Nazareth defeated Cortland (receiving votes) 2-1 on Saturday in the Golden Flyers home opener. Nazareth moves to 4-0, while Cortland drops to 1-2.

How it Happened:

• Nazareth wasted no time getting on the board, winning the opening faceoff and going right down to find the net. Marchese took a pass down the right boards and slapped it into the 5-hole to make it 1-0 just 12 seconds in. Mia Abruzzese and Ave Meteyer were credited with assists.
• The score remained that way until less than five minutes into the period when Cortland evened the scored on the power play. It was 1-1 after the first period.
• Marchese was at it again in the second period assisting on a goal four minutes in. She poked the puck past the defender down the right boards, charging in for a shot, before Meredith Boettcher smashed in the rebound for her fourth of the year.
• Goaltender Mia Gonsalves made a huge save 7:30 into the period just getting the tip of her glove on the puck to keep the score 2-1. She made a career-high 17 saves in the win

• Nazareth opens up conference play on Friday, traveling to Manhattanville for a 7 pm contest. The Golden Flyers will take on the Valiants again on Saturday at 2 pm.
