ONEONTA, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) - No. 3 Nazareth Field Hockey (14-5) upset No. 2 Hartwick (11-6) in overtime, 3-2, in the Empire 8 Semifinals Wednesday afternoon inside Wright Stadium. The win advances Nazareth to its first E8 Championship Final since 2019 and first under second-year Head Coach Kelsey Devine

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nazareth fell behind early after an early Hartwick until Hannah Janes scored off a feed from Michaela Cushman to even the game at 1-1 after the first quarter.
  • The Golden Flyers generated several scoring chances in the second quarter, including a penalty stroke late in the frame, but the attempt was stopped by the Hawks to keep the game tied at halftime.
  • Hartwick applied continued offensive pressure with multiple penalty corners but goalkeeper Lauren Bachner and the Nazareth defense stood tall to keep the third quarter scoreless.
  • The Hawks converted a penalty stroke midway through the quarter to regain a 2-1 lead before Isabel Porterfield answered for the Golden Flyers, burying the equalizer with five minutes left in regulation to force overtime.
  • Porterfield delivered again in the extra time, scoring off a penalty corner to lift Nazareth to a 3-2 win and a spot in the Empire 8 Championship.
