ROCHESTER, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Volleyball (0-19, 0-4) dropped a nonconference contest to William Smith (17-2, 4-0), 3-0, Wednesday night inside Kidera Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- William Smith jumped out to a 9-5 lead in the first before using an 11-2 run to go up 18-9. Nazareth took seven of the next 11 points to bring the frame within six, 22-16, until the Herons registered three straight to close out the set 25-16.
- William Smith recorded another 9-5 advantage to start the second set before Nazareth posted three consecutive points to make it 9-8. The Herons notched a 12-1 run next to lead 21-9 until an attack error gave the Golden Flyers the sideout. Nazareth tacked on two more points but dropped the set 25-11.
- Nazareth and William Smith traded points to begin the first set before the Herons tallied four straight points to gain a 13-9 edge. Both teams went back and forth again until William Smith used another 4-0 to lead 21-14. The Golden Flyers fought back with three consecutive scores to make it 21-17 before the Herons finished the set 25-18.
MATCH NOTES
- Leah Fusilli led the Golden Flyers with 10 kills and one service ace for 11 points, her sixth double-digit kills performance this fall.
- Jenna Mattison notched a team-best 12 digs and three service aces, her sixth game this season with double-digit digs.
