Men's Hockey falls to #2 Utica 5-4 in Thrilling UCHC Showdown

Utica, NY - Although the Nazareth men's hockey team and #2 Utica University were tied at one point Thursday night, the Golden Flyers ended up falling 5-4 to the Pioneers.
 
With the loss, Nazareth now stands 6-8-2 overall on the season and 2-7-2 in the UCHC, while Utica jumps to 13-2-1 overall and 9-1-1 in the UCHC.
 
Utica was able to catch Nazareth off guard at the start of the contest. Utica scored twice, 26 seconds apart in the first period. 
 
The Golden Flyers were not able to respond to Utica's quick start in the first period and went into the second period down by two. 
 
Nearly 10 minutes into the second period, Logan Tobias was able to score the first goal of the game for Nazareth with a wrist shot. Antoine Lucier helped Tobias score his 10th goal of the season. 
 
A couple minutes later, the Golden Flyers were able to tie up the game. With chaos in front of the net, Nate Mann was able to get his stick on the puck and jam it into the back of the net 14:06 into the second period to make it 2-2
 
Utica responded to the tie by scoring two more quick goals 6 seconds apart to close out the second period. 
 
A pass to the point was made by Mann and a long shot from Griffin Green was made on net which created a rebound. The follow up goal went to Blake Frost 5:28 into the third period.
 
Although Nazareth was able to bring the score to 4-3, Utica respond once more. They scored with 8:38 left in the game.  
 
In the last minute of play, Nazareth was able to score on a power play. Joey Schaefer passed to Daisuke Egusa. Egusa took a shot from the point and Anthony Quinlivan was able to finish it off. Quinlivan scored with 40 seconds left in the third period for the final goal of the game. 
 
Matt Sayles was in net for Nazareth and had a season high of 33 saves. 
 
The Golden Flyers will return to action on Saturday, January 25 at the Tim's Horton's Iceplex against #2 Utica University for the Face Off Against Cancer Game.
