ROCHESTER, NY – The flood gates were open on Saturday as the Nazareth men's soccer team exploded for a 9-1 win over Hilbert College on Saturday afternoon, headlined by sophomore
Spencer Neil netting four goals. Neil's four goals were all scored in the first half.
Drew Decker (1 goal, two assists) and
Jake Pawlika (2 goals, 1 assist) each finished with three points.
Nazareth is now 1-1 on the year, while Hilbert drops to 0-3.
Pawlika threaded a pass to Decker, who found Neil behind the defense for a one-time shot at the 6-yard box in the 11
th minute. The initial shot was saved, however Neil poked in the rebound.
Nazareth's offense kept rolling, notching two goals in a :38 second span.
Neil netted his second of the game in the 23
rd minute, as he once again got behind the defense on a far post run off the assist from Decker.
In the 24
th minute Neil was pulled down in the box which allowed Pawlika to convert the penalty, boosting Nazareth's lead to 3-0.
Neil completed his hat trick in the 28
th minute, ripping a shot from the 18-yard box to find the net.
In the 39
th minute,
Alex Adou tapped a pass forward to Neil up the left side, who took one-touch and buried a left-footed shot from the corner of the six-yard box.
It was 5-0 at the half.
Just over two minutes into the second Pawlika netted his second of the day off Decker's second assist of the day. Pawlika now has 33 career goals and Decker 29 assists.
Pawlika returned the favor in the 58
th minute to Decker. Two minutes later,
Iskander Kosoko scored his first-career goal with a free kick goal from
Braden Callahan.
Junior
Danny Belman scored his first-career goal for Nazareth in the 72
nd minute off an assist from
Joey Weaver.
Hilbert was able break up the shutout in the 80
th minute.
Nazareth returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Hobart at 4 p.m.
