Men's Soccer Staves off Hobart, 1-0

ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth men's soccer team held off a stingy offense from Hobart on Wednesday, downing the Statesman 1-0 in non-conference action. Hobart was particularly dangerous in the second half generating 17 shots and 14 corner kicks, but the Golden Flyers were able to hold off the barrage. Logan Menna made five saves in the win.

The win was the first over the Statesmen since 2002, and improves to 12-20-4.

Nazareth improves to 2-1 overall, while Hobart drops to 0-2-2.

Nazareth took advantage of a misplaced pass by a Hobart defender in the 8th minute of the game. A back pass was too far for the Hobart defender and Spencer Neil was able to go in on goal and put home his sixth goal of the season.

Neil nearly had his second of the day in the 20th minute as a beautiful pass from Drew Decker was one-timed off the post.

With less than six minutes remaining in the half Neil had a shot cleared off line by a Statesman defender to keep the score 1-0. The score remained 1-0 at the half.

Seven minutes into the second half Menna made a sprawl out save, tipping the ball to the side to keep Hobart off the slate.

Hobart's best chance came in the 85th minute when a header hit off the crossbar and went out.

Nazareth returns to action on Saturday, completing its four-game homestand to start the season with a 3 p.m. matchup against Allegheny.
