ROCHESTER, NY - In 2014 the Nazareth women's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 after a thrilling 4-3 victory over Amherst in penalty kicks on November 16, 2014.
The Golden Flyers had a tremendous start to the game, scoring just 1:22 off a goal from Courtney Malia. Briana Vibbard assisted on the goal.
Nazareth made it 2-0 on a goal from Danielle Wilkin in the 21st minute off an assist from Christine Belding.
Amherst brought the heat in the second half, tallying two goals, the game-tying goal in the 89th minute to send the game to overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the game headed to penalty kicks. After three kicks, with each team missing a penalty, the score was 2-2. Wilkin buried her attempt in addition to the Lord Jeffs. On the the fifth penalty, Amherst's shot was stopped by Nazareth goalkeeper Brayden Dobles setting up the winning kick for Tori Ryan to send the Golden Flyers on.
Nazareth ended up falling to Messiah 3-0 in the Round of 16 and finished the year 15-4-4.
