Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth University Women's field hockey team was unable to close the two goal deficit that emerged late in the away game, and fell 4-1 to the University of Rochester Wednesday night.
The Golden Flyers are now 3-5 overall, and the Yellowjackets stand 9-1.
About six minutes into the game, the Yellowjackets were able to convert the corner opportunity into a goal for the 1-0 lead, despite a great defensive save made by Naz senior
Lydia Coombs.
Within the last minute of the first quarter, the Golden Flyers' junior
Audra Mieczkowski managed a shot during a penalty corner attempt that was unfortunately blocked by U of R.
Nazareth was able to keep the momentum going into the second quarter when Mieczkowski slammed home a rebound off freshman
Michaela Cushman's shot during another penalty corner. Cushman was granted the assist on the then tying goal.
Rochester managed to regain the lead in the last few minutes of the second quarter and held the 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
Despite a peppering of shots, sophomore goaltender
Morgan Russo was able to maintain the one goal deficit entering the final quarter of play.
Right about at the halfway mark of the fourth, U of R managed to get one past Russo to increase their lead to 3-1. Not 30 seconds later, the same Yellowjacket scored again to set the eventual final score at 4-1.
Russo finished the game with 14 saves and faced 14 penalty corners in total for the night.
The Golden Flyers wrap up their 8 game stint of away games on Saturday, where they will face off against Hartwick College at 4pm.
