Men’s Soccer Settles for 1-1 Tie on the Road Against Hobart

GENEVA, NY – Junior Jake Pawlika scored his team-leading third goal of the season in the 12th minute for the Nazareth University Men's Soccer team but Hobart knotted the score late in the half and the teams played a scoreless second half for a 1-1 tie in the non-conference matchup Wednesday.

Nazareth (4-0-1) remained unbeaten with the tie and had a non-losing score against the Statesmen for the first time since 2005. Hobart (1-3-1) had a 10-game win streak and the last tie was a 3-3 game in 2005.

Pawlika put the Golden Flyers on top early as junior Drew Decker took a pass into the corner of the offensive zone and sent a crossing pass to the mouth of the goal where Pawlika was able to deflect the ball into the lower corner of the goal.

With less than five minutes to play in the first half, the Statesmen tied the score and the team went into the halftime break knotted at 1-1.

In the second half, Hobart held a 7-0 edge in shots. Senior Patrick Larkin made four saves in the Nazareth goal.

The Golden Flyers return home Saturday to open Empire 8 play with a 1 p.m. game against Russell Sage.
