ROCHESTER, NY – A total of 16 different player registered goals Wednesday as the Nazareth Men's Lacrosse team scored a 23-2 win over Keuka in the first game of the season in Empire 8 play.
Nazareth (4-6 overall, 1-0 Empire 8) jumped out to an early lead with six goals in the first 15 minutes of action. The Golden Flyers added seven goals in the second quarter to lead 13-0 at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Nazareth scored the first two goals for a 15-0 lead before Keuka (4-2, 0-1 Empire 8) scored.
The Golden Flyers added five more goals in the third period to take a 20-1 lead into the final quarter. Nazareth scored three goals to start the final quarter before the Wolves scored their second goal of the contest.
Senior Max Popolizio and junior Quinn McKercher each registered five points as Popolizio had a goal and four assists while McKercher added two goals and three assists. Senior Greg Bilek and sophomore Michael Bergan each added three points as Bilek handed out three assists and Bergan found the back of the net three times.
Senior Jack McOsker, sophomore Andy Hamel and freshman William O'Neill each finished with two goals.
The Golden Flyers used three different goalies as graduate student Eric Almquist started the game and finished with two saves in 18 minutes of action. The two saves put his career total over 500 as he becomes just the fourth goalie in Nazareth history to record at least 500 saves.
Sophomore Colin Perks and freshman McLean Ralston combined eight saves over the final 42 minutes.
Nazareth will continue Empire 8 play at Utica Saturday with a 3 p.m. game.
