OSWEGO, NY – After scoring seven times in a win over Elmira over the weekend, the Nazareth University Field Hockey team looked to extend the win streak but surrendered 14 penalty corners and allowed a goal in each half as SUNY Oswego posted a 2-0 win at home Tuesday afternoon.
After a scoreless first quarter, Nazareth (1-11 overall) found themselves in the defensive end of the field for most of the second period as Oswego (6-9) fired seven shots on five penalty corner opportunities and scored a goal late in the quarter for a 1-0 lead.
After halftime, the Lakers continued the pressure with six more corners and four shots in the period that resulted in the second goal of the game and a 2-0 Oswego lead.
The Golden Flyers rallied late with some sustained offensive pressure, but the Oswego defense held on for the slim victory.
Sophomore Lauren Bachner started in goal for Nazareth and was credited with six saves on the afternoon.
Nazareth returns to Empire 8 action Saturday with a 4 p.m. game at Utica. The Pioneers are one of the two remaining winless teams in Empire 8 games.
