ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore
Audra Mieczkowski scored a penalty corner late in the game, but it was not enough, as the Golden Flyers fell 4-1 Wednesday night at the Artificial Turf against crosstown rival St. John Fisher.
The Golden Flyers fall to 1-8 on the year and 1-2 in conference play, while Fisher moves to 2-6 and 2-1, respectively.
In an even first quarter, where Fisher outshot Nazareth 8-4, the Cardinals were able to get on the board 6:43 in on Emma Cooper's first of two goals.
Despite being outshot 23-4 in the first half, the Golden Flyers were able to keep the score 1-0 at the break.
Mackenzie Halliday had another strong performance in net, finishing with 18 saves. The Golden Flyers also benefited from defensive saves by
Hannah Janes and Mieczkowski. Mieczkowski now has six defensive saves on the season.
Fisher added a goal early in third quarter and then two more in the fourth.
Nazareth was able to break through for a late penalty corner, which resulted in a penalty stroke at 59:44. Mieczkowski made good on her attempt, tucking it in the left side to round out the scoring.
Nazareth will look to get back on track on Saturday, traveling to Houghton for a 1 p.m. showdown.
