Carle and Van Stralen Each Score Twice in Championship Game

ROCHESTER, NY – Seniors Delaney Carle and Nikolle Van Stralen each scored a pair of goals to lead the Nazareth College Women's Hockey team to a 7-0 victory and the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Tournament Championship.

The win also earns Nazareth an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The official selection for the tournament will be announced Sunday night at 8:30 p.m.

Nazareth (27-1-0) scored twice in each of the first two periods and put the game out of reach with three third period goals.

The game was scoreless until 4:04 left in the opening period when senior Elie Fallieras knocked in a rebound after fellow senior Hailey Redders had her initial shot saved.

Redders was named the tournament MVP for her solid play throughout the tournament as Nazareth defeated Lebanon Valley and Chatham to reach the championship game.

Three minutes later Carle scored the first of two goals with assists from senior Abbey Luth and sophomore Julia Holmes to give the Golden Flyers a 2-0 lead after one period of play.

Midway through the second period, junior Ally Watrous took a pass from Fallieras and scored her team-leading 22nd goal of the season to push the lead to 3-0 at the 8:11 mark of the period. Three minutes later Van Stralen scored her first goal of the game with an unassisted goal and Nazareth took a 4-0 lead into the third period.

Van Stralen extended the lead with another unassisted goal at the 7:52 mark of the final period. The senior was named to the All-Tournament team.

Carle added her second goal two minutes later with Holmes picking up her second assist of the game. Carle joined Van Stralen and Redders on the All-Tournament team. Senior Adrianna Brehm was selected to the All-Tournament team as well after making 19 saves for the shutout victory.

Junior Makenna Wiljanen capped the Nazareth scoring with 6:49 left to play as the Golden Flyers cruised to the victory.

Additional members of the All-Tournament team included Allison Corser-James from Chatham, Gabriella Cox from Manhattanville and Georgiana Santullo from Utica.
