ROCHESTER, NY – Visiting Brockport scored the go-ahead goal off a corner kick early in the second half and held off Nazareth 2-1 on Wednesday night in non-conference action. It was the Golden Flyers Breast Cancer Awareness game and the team collected donations that will benefit the Wilmot Cancer Center for breast cancer research.
With the loss, Nazareth falls to 5-4-7 overall on the year, while Golden Eagles improve to 5-8-3. Nazareth is currently tied for second place in the conference standings with its regular season finale on Saturday, hosting Alfred at 3 p.m. for Senior Day.
Brockport found the back of the net just :46 seconds into the contest. Lara Kanbur took a shot from the right wing that Nazareth goalkeeper
Annika Monfort initially saved, before Maryalice Skutnik put home the rebound.
Nazareth was able to even the score in the 12
th minute, with
Haley Glassman finding
Alexandra Skoda for a goal from in close. Skoda leads the Golden Flyers with six goals on the season.
Glassman had a strong opportunity in the 25
th minute, putting a right-footed shot just outside the post.
It was a fairly even first half of play with Nazareth holding a 11-10 edge in shots. The score remained 1-1 at the break.
Nazareth nearly took the lead in the 49
th minute as
Grace Lanzetta sent a shot that was tipped by the Golden Eagles goalkeeper off the crossbar and out.
After not registering a corner kick in the opening half, Brockport registered two early in the second, converting on the latter in the 51
st minute. Kaleigh Pettit crossed an in-swinging ball that Franchesca Polcaro converted on the back side.
Nazareth had 11 shots in the second half, including a few quality chances, but it was unable to score the equalizer. They held a 22-16 edge in shots for the game.
Annika Monfort played 65:44 in net, allowing two goals and making five saves. She was replaced by freshman
Delaney Malone for the final 24:16 as she made two saves. It was Malone's fourth appearance this season.
