Plane and Moss Score to lead Nazareth Past RIT

ROCHESTER, NY – Juniors Ashley Plane and Sydney Moss each scored goals for the Nazareth College Women's Soccer team as the Golden Flyers recorded their fifth shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology Wednesday afternoon at Golden Flyers Stadium.

Plane scored her fourth goal of the season on a short pass from Moss in the 18-yard box in the 15th minutes to give Nazareth (7-0) the early lead.

Just 1:14 later, the Golden Flyers struck again as senior Caleigh Cahoon sent a centering pass to Moss who finished the play and gave Nazareth a 2-0 lead.

The Nazareth defense was strong for the remainder of the first half as RIT (0-1) had a slim 7-6 edge in shots over the first 45 minutes but trailed 2-0 at the intermission break.

In the second half, Nazareth controlled the play for a majority of the final 45 minutes and held a 5-3 shots edge in the period and finished with an 11-10 advantage for the game. Each team had four corner kicks and junior goalie Gabrielle Pighetti was credited with three saves as she earned her seventh win of the season and fourth shutout.

The Golden Flyers will wrap up the regular season Saturday with a 12 p.m. home game against Alfred. Nazareth has secured the top seed in the Empire 8 Tournament and will have a bye in the first round and will host the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed game Thursday, April 15. The conference championship is scheduled for Saturday, April 17.
