PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth had the tough task of opening the softball season against 11th-ranked on Saturday. The Cardinals lived up their ranking with a pair of 8-0 shutouts while limiting the Golden Flyers to three total hits during the course of the doubleheader.
With the losses, Nazareth begins the season 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the Empire 8. Fisher improves to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in conference games with the victories.
In game one, senior

Jessica Klem had the Golden Flyers hits. Sophomore
Emily Daciw took the loss for Nazareth as she allowed eight runs on seven hits in four innings. Daciw finished with one strikeout. Daciw and the Golden Flyers' defense held Fisher to a total of one run over the first, second, and fourth innings, however, the Cardinals exploded for seven runs in the third inning to pull away. Fisher's Maria Marcera hit her first homerun of the season to add to the Cardinals' offense. Emily Trotman pitched four innings and had four strikeouts to earn the victory. Jenna Leydecker closed the game with a one strikeout in her lone inning pitched.
In game two, junior
Allison Smith connected on Nazareth's lone hit. Junior
Aubrin Smith and senior
Janelle Walters reached base on walks. Smith had a pair of walks while Walters walked once. Similar to the first game, the Cardinals used a third-inning scoring outburst to pull away from the Golden Flyers. After scoring once in the first inning, Fisher added four runs in the third before closing the game with a run in the fourth and two in the sixth. Junior
Maddie Funk pitched 5.2 innings and had two strikeouts in the loss. She allowed five earned runs on 12 hits. Jess Patterson earned the victory for the Cardinals with seven strikeouts in six innings. Allie Klonowski led the Fisher offense in the second game with a pair of doubles and three RBIs.
The Golden Flyers host Rochester Tuesday, April 6th, for a non-conference doubleheader. The games are at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Flyer Field.
