ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Top-seeded Nazareth remained unbeaten in women's tennis Thursday as the Golden Flyers defeated No. 4 Houghton in the semifinals of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament, 8-1, at the Golisano Training Center.

Nazareth improved to 7-0 and advanced to Saturday's championship match at 10 a.m. against second seed St. John Fisher. The Cardinals defeated Utica, 5-4, in the other semifinal match. Nazareth defeated Fisher 7-2 on March 27. The championship match also will be played at the GTC. The winner gains an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Aliya Guzman, Brooke Murphy, Marissa Towers, Caroline Keegan and Elizabeth Delaney each won singles matches for the Golden Flyers Thursday. Murphy needed to win a 10-2 tiebreaker to take the second singles point over Houghton's Erin Haley. Towers won at third singles in straight sets, but needed to win a 7-5 tiebreaker to take the second set 7-6.

In doubles, Nazareth's first tandem of Guzman and Murphy defeated Houghton's twosome of Haley and Elise Swanson in a close match, 8-6.
