PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Paced by a fourth-place finish by sophomore
Emily Weaver, Nazareth's women's cross country team finished in second place Friday at St. John Fisher's Terry Rodenbeck Invitational, contested on Fisher's former golf course.
In the 4-kilometer race, Nazareth finished in second place with 41 points. Fisher won the team competition with 17 points. Utica (89) and Alfred (98) also ran.
Weaver was Nazareth's top finisher in fourth place with a time of 16:14.8. She was followed to the finish line by freshman
Lilianna Hanning in seventh place (16:43.6); sophomore
Megan Morin in eighth place (16:44.4); freshman
Paige Ackley in 10th place (17:02.0) and junior
Hayley Cronin in 12th place (17:15.4).
Other Nazareth runners were sophomore
Giselle Rainville in 13th place (17:18.5) and sophomore
Alexis Anagnostopulos in 15th place (17:28.5).
The men's team also competed for the first time since November of 2019 and the Golden Flyers, behind a first-place finish from Nathan Bowers, totaled 25 points to outdistance Fisher (33 points) for the team title. Houghton (88), Alfred (113) and Utica (149) also competed.
Bowers, a sophomore, finished first on the 6-kilometer course with a winning time of 19:47.4. Senior Michael Brown finished fourth (20:45.0) and was followed by freshman Matt Reimann in fifth place (20:46.2); sophomore Nathan McNally in seventh place (21:04.6) and senior Christopher Celecki in eighth place (21:10.0).
Other Nazareth competitors were freshman Ethan Glashauser in ninth place (21:13.6); sophomore Lucas Sharron in 11th place (21:27.7); freshman Kenny Williams in 15th place (21:42.0) and freshman Ahviere Reese in 30th place (22:45.9).
Nazareth will compete again April 1 at Houghton and at the Empire 8 Conference championship meet also at Houghton on April 9.
