Cortland dominates Nazareth in NCAAs, 6-1

Golden Flyers finish season at 13-2-3 overall

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Host Cortland dominated Nazareth Saturday in a first-round NCAA Division III Tournament match as the Red Dragons scored five times before the game was 25 minutes old as they went on to win in men's soccer, 6-1, at Cortland's Holloway Field.

Nazareth, making its second tournament appearance in the last three seasons and fourth overall, had a 14-game unbeaten streak snapped as the Golden Flyers finished with a 13-2-3 overall record.  Cortland, ranked ninth by d3soccer.com, improved to 17-2-1 and will play again Sunday against the winner of the first-round match between Gettysburg and Kean.

Jack Coleman led the Red Dragons' multi-faceted attack with two goals and an assist. Blake Aronson and Lukas Rubio each added one goal and one assist. Freshman Jake Pawlika scored his team-best 12th goal for Nazareth.

Cortland struck early against the Golden Flyers by scoring in the fifth minute as Scott Cebollero headed in a corner kick from Rubio. Aronson scored in the 15th minute, then Coleman made it 3-0 five minutes later. Rubio and Coleman added the fourth and fifth goals just 75 seconds apart and Cortland was in control from there.

Pawlika scored for Nazareth in the 32nd minute, but Cortland closed out the scoring with an own goal in the opening minute of the second half.

Cortland outshot Nazareth 22-6 and Nazareth freshman keeper Logan Menna was called upon to make five saves.
