Nazareth downs Fisher for fourth straight win, 3-1

Golden Flyers (7-5-3 overall) host Hartwick Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth scored the game's first three goals Wednesday during a key Empire 8 Conference women's soccer match and the Golden Flyers went on to take a 3-1 victory over St. John Fisher at Golden Flyer Stadium.

The victory was the fourth straight for the Golden Flyers -- all against Empire 8 competition -- who improved to 7-5-3 overall and 6-0 in the E8. Fisher dropped to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference matches.

Nazareth was in control most of the way, breaking through in the ninth minute on a goal by Sydney Moss, who benefitted from a perfect through pass from the foot of freshman Grace Palczewski, who was credited with her first career point.

Graduate student Kristen Prohaska accounted for Nazareth's next two goals -- her fourth and fifth of the season -- that came about two minutes apart. The first came on a shot from about 30 yards away that found the inside of the right goal post for a 2-0 Nazareth lead.

Her second goal came in the 26th minute after Sarah Merriwether dribbled through the midfield and passed to Maggie Hoey on the right wing. Hoey's centering pass found the left foot of Prohaska, who redirected the ball into the upper left corner for a 3-0 Nazareth advantage.

A momentum shift late in the first half resulted in the only goal of the game for the Cardinals, who had the better of the play over the final 10 minutes or so. Carli Kovarik scored her team-leading 10th goal off an assist from Madison Scull.

The final statistics tally had Nazareth ahead 15-10 in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks. Freshman Annika Monfort made seven saves for the Golden Flyers. Halle Tickell had five saves for Fisher.
