MARCY, N.Y. -- Junior Antonio Sargent posted a match-best 13 kills and senior Sean Dillon had 10 kills and two blocks as Nazareth defeated SUNY Poly in four sets in a non-conference men's volleyball match Friday afternoon. Wentworth handed the Golden Flyers a 3-0 loss in the second game of the day as Nazareth split its two matches.
Against SUNY Poly, Nazareth won by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 25-17. In the Wentworth match, the Leopards won 25-19, 25-21, 25-20.
Competing at the SUNY Poly Invitational, the Golden Flyers improved to 2-1 on the season and will face Alvernia at SUNY Poly at 1 p.m. Saturday.
In the first match, Nazareth totaled 48 kills overall, including 18 in the fourth set, to surge past the Wildcats. Senior setter Luis Vazquez amassed 34 assists and senior Joe Crosby and freshman Nate Allen each contributed eight kills. Freshman Seth Terzo had 12 digs.
In the opening set, Nazareth overcame deficits of 5-0 and 15-10 to rally for the two-point win. Sargent had three of his kills and Crosby knocked down the set-clinching spike to lift the Golden Flyers.
Dillon added four kills and two blocks to lead the way in the second set. Allen helped to close out the Wildcats by producing five kills in the fourth set
Against Wentworth, Sargent and Crosby had 10 kills each and Vazquez handed out 27 assists. Terzo had 10 digs and Dillon recorded three aces
