CANTON, NY – Junior Deanna Tinch fired a +7 on the second day of competition to finish tied for 19th place overall as she led the Nazareth College women's golf team to a seventh place team finish at the season-opening St. Lawrence University Invitational on the Appleton Country Club course.
New York University won the team title with a combined +5 score (581) and Middlebury (626, +50) was second and Hamilton (632, +56) was third. Cortland (633, +57) was one stroke back in fourth followed by Ithaca (640, +64), Union (669, +93) and Nazareth (720, +144). The Golden Flyers finished ahead of William Smith (761, +185) and Utica (763, +187) in the final team standings. The women's course was par 72 at 5,830 yards.
Tinch recorded three birdies on the second day of competition to move up four spots on the individual leaderboard and finished with two other golfers at +20.
Freshmen Holly Ebert and Danielle Caringi both finished at 181, +37 and were tied for 35th on the leaderboard. Sophomore Olivia Minor rounded out the Nazareth scoring with a +50, 194 in 40th position.
Junior Vincent Leblond was the lone male golfer for Nazareth and shaved a pair of strokes off his first round and moved up four spots to finish tied for 16th place overall with a +8, 152. The men's course was par 72 at a distance of 6,604 yards.
The golf teams compete next September 21 at the Utica College Invitational at the Yahnundasis Country Club.
